With the introduction of thermal metering, multi-residential and commercial buildings are now able to effectively measure and accurately bill residents and tenants for unit heating and cooling costs.

What is thermal metering?

thermal building

Thermal metering allows for the measurement of energy used to heat and cool individual units.

It is the most accurate method for monitoring heating and cooling consumption and allocating combined electricity and natural gas costs.

What are the benefits?

  • Increased building value
  • Decreased operating costs
  • Billing accuracy
  • Individual billing
  • LEED certification credits
  • ‘User-pay’ system

How does it work?

Thermal meters measure the amount of energy it takes to heat and cool a unit by measuring the volume of fluid that passes through a fan coil unit or heat pump. Additionally, it records the change in temperature that the fluid undergoes while heating or cooling the unit.
